Valves for seawater or desalination plants are subjected to extreme conditions. They must withstand chemical attack from chlorine-free ions. For that reason, they require special materials.

7. Pumping Stations

Pumping stations require check valves that allow large amounts of water to pass through when the pumps are in operation and have a sufficiently low pressure drop to allow small amounts of water to pass through by gravity. Reliable check files are required to prevent the backflow of water that has been pumped at a higher elevation in the case of pump stoppage or failure. In view of the fact that the valves would be subject to an immediate static load, a quick action valve is critical. Nevertheless, a valve that closes suddenly may cause other problems by itself.

Hand and pneumatic operated butterfly valves are quick opening valves that consist of a metal disc (lined where necessary) with its pivot axes at right angles to the direction of flow in the pipe.
They are leaktight on all liquids, slurries, granular materials, powders, pastes, gases acids etc…
Seat and disc are easily replaceable without any special tools. The wide range of available elastomer materials enables an appropriate selection for each application and is guarantee of perfect resistance to corrosion and abrasion.
